FAQs
We love our Fencing culture, but we know it can be confusing at times. Please look through our Frequently asked questions and let us know if you need any other Fencing information. We are happy to help.
Is fencing safe for kids, and do they need special shoes?
Fencing is one of the safest youth sports, it's highly supervised, with strict rules and protective kit. The right footwear matters because young fencers lunge, brake and change direction constantly: a proper kids' fencing shoe gives grip on the strip and supports the ankle, which everyday sneakers don't. Azza's kids' shoes are built with the same engineering as our adult range, scaled down for growing feet. See kids' fencing shoes.
What size should I buy, and should I size up for room to grow?
Kids' feet grow fast, so a little room helps, but avoid going more than a half-size up, as a loose fencing shoe slips on the lunge and costs grip and control. Measure your child's foot and check our kids' size chart to find the best fit. If they're between sizes or have a wider foot, choose the larger size.
What makes a good fencing shoe for a child?
A kids' fencing shoe should be lightweight so young fencers can move quickly, have a grippy sole tuned for start-stop footwork on the strip, support the ankle through direction changes, and be comfortable enough for full training sessions. Azza's kids' shoes carry the same grip and support as the adult range, scaled for smaller feet, so beginners learn good footwork in shoes built for the sport. Explore kids' fencing shoes.
Are kids' fencing shoes worth it if my child is just starting out?
Yes, even at beginner level, proper footwear helps a child learn correct footwork safely and comfortably, and reduces slips on the strip. They're built to handle regular training, so they hold up well through a season. If your child sticks with the sport, you'll have given them the right foundation from day one.
