FAQ

We love our Fencing culture, but we know it can be confusing at times. Please look through our Frequently asked questions and let us know if you need any other Fencing information. We are happy to help.

What sneakers can I use for fencing?

It's recommended to choose shoes that offer the right balance between balance, lightweight, support, and comfort. Our fencing shoes are designed to provide optimal performance, good grip and extra comfort

Have you tried fencing shoes during a game?

Our founder Azza Besbes is a former professional fencer. She fenced on professional circuit for 15+
years and had used 50+ different pairs including specific fencing shoes but also regular athletic
footwear. Azza confirms that specific fencing shoes are necessary to maintain good grip on the
track and ensure stability while changing direction.

Using fencing footwear during training or bouts is necessary to feel confident on the strip and
execute movements correctly and stress free. The most import for beginner or professional fencers
is to choose the right fencing shoes in which they feel comfortable and balanced.

Are fencing shoes different from other shoes? What is special about them?

Azza Fencing’s founder teamed up with shoes expert and professional fencers to design the fencing
shoes that fit fencers needs in term of security, performance, lightweight and agility.

Our fencing shoes offer to fencers’ specific requirements proper to their sport:

- Sole design and grip: The outsole design includes engineered grooves providing optimal
traction on the fencing strip while allowing for quick and precise footwork.
- Ankle support: The heel construction ensures stability and agility in the same time prioritizing
extensive support to secure ankle and Achille’s tendon from brutal direction change and
sudden braking.
- Lightweight and flexibility: Fencing shoes are designed to be lightweight and flexible to
support quick and agile footwork, allowing fencers to execute lunges, retreats, and quick
direction changes efficiently.
- Breathability: Azza Fencing shoes prioritize breathability to keep the feet cool during intense
matches and training sessions and avoid slipping in the shoes when feet are wet.
- Cushioning and impact absorption: The midsole is shock absorbing thanks to a highly
cushioned sustainable material made of recycled EVA. The sole absorbs the impact of jumps,
repetitive lunges, and sudden stops.

Can you play badminton or squash in fencing shoes?

We think shoes are engineered to provide the right combination of traction, support, cushioning,
and durability for the movements and demands of each sport. But we can tell that fencing has
common features with badminton and squash with lateral footwork, high jumps and lunges.

Just as fencing shoes, badminton footwear is lightweight and flexible, emphasizing maneuverability
to aid in swift court coverage and dynamic movements. They also provide good ankle support to
prevent injuries during the frequent lateral movements and jumps required in the sport. The sole
pattern is crafted to provide grip and enable rapid lateral movements on badminton court’s
wooden or synthetic surface.
